9 DAYS IN TANZANIA
TRIP SUMMARY
Kilimanjaro: Climb the Roof of Africa
Get ready for the greatest physical and mental challenge of your life: reaching the highest peak in Africa. On this expedition along the Machame Route, known as the "Whisky Route", you'll embark on an epic journey from tropical rainforest to eternal glaciers.
You'll walk above the clouds, push past your own limits, and watch the sun rise from the highest point on the continent, Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres. This isn't just a mountain, it's an inner journey where you'll discover you can reach far higher than you ever imagined.
ITINERARY SUMMARY
THE CHALLENGE BEGINS
You'll land at Kilimanjaro International Airport buzzing with nerves and excitement. Our team will collect you and drive you to Moshi, where you'll meet your guides, check your gear, and mentally prepare for the great adventure that starts tomorrow. Rest well, because the giant is waiting.
Accommodation: Hotel / Lodge in Moshi or Arusha. Meals included: Breakfast.
FIRST STEPS IN THE JUNGLE: MACHAME GATE
Your expedition begins at the Machame Gate. You'll enter a lush tropical rainforest draped in moss and bursting with life, walking beneath giant trees. Feel the air grow purer with every step as you gain altitude, until you reach your first camp for your first night sleeping on the mountain.
Accommodation: Machame Camp (2,835m) Meals included: Full board on the mountain.
UP TO THE SHIRA PLATEAU
You'll leave the forest behind and enter a landscape of heathland and volcanic rock. A steep ridge climb brings you to the Shira Plateau, where you'll get your first clear views of Kibo Peak and its glaciers. Watch the sunset above the clouds, an image that will stay with you forever.
Accommodation: Shira Camp (3,839m). Meals included: Full board on the mountain.
THE LAVA TOWER CHALLENGE
Today you'll put your body to the test with the golden rule: climb high, sleep low. You'll ascend to the imposing Lava Tower at 4,600 metres, where the altitude will make itself felt, before descending into the spectacular Barranco Valley. You'll sleep surrounded by giant senecio plants beneath the dramatic Barranco Wall.
Accommodation: Barranco Camp (3,950m). Meals included: Full board on the mountain.
THE GREAT BARRANCO WALL
You'll tackle the famous Barranco Wall, a fun scramble where you'll use your hands to climb (no technical climbing required). Once at the top, you'll enjoy breathtaking views before descending into the Karanga Valley. A shorter day, but a vital one for saving energy ahead of the final push.
Accommodation: Karanga Camp (4,040m). Meals included: Full board on the mountain.
BARAFU BASE CAMP
The trail becomes increasingly lunar and desolate as you approach base camp. You'll arrive at Barafu with the majestic peak right in front of you. An early dinner, then you'll try to sleep through the mix of nerves and adrenaline, knowing that in just a few hours, the moment of truth begins.
Accommodation: Barafu Camp (4,645m). Meals included: Full board on the mountain.
THE SUMMIT: UHURU PEAK
You'll rise at midnight for the final ascent under a blanket of stars. Step by step, you'll push through the cold and exhaustion until you reach Stella Point just as the sun rises. And then it happens: you'll stand on Uhuru Peak (5,895m). You'll touch the sky, embrace your fellow climbers, and feel overwhelmed with emotion before beginning the long descent back through the forest.
Accommodation: Mweka / Millennium Camp (3,820m). Meals included: Full board on the mountain.
THE CELEBRATION
You'll descend the final stretch through the rainforest to the exit gate, where you'll receive your summit certificate and say a heartfelt farewell to your porter and guide team with the traditional Kilimanjaro song. You'll return to the hotel for the most well-deserved shower of your life and a celebratory dinner.
Accommodation: Hotel / Lodge in Moshi or Arusha. Meals included: Breakfast.
HOMEWARD BOUND
You'll transfer to the airport for your return flight. As the plane takes off and you spot the mountain through the window, you'll smile knowing you've conquered one of the greatest challenges on the planet.
